'xXx: Return of Xander Cage' Release Date, News & Update: New Trailer Fully Embraces Over The Top Action

A new "xXx: Return of Xander Cage" trailer has just been dropped by Paramount and Revolutions studios. The new trailer shows more scenes than the teaser trailer, and features more of the cast.

"xXx: Return of Xander Cage" is the third installment of the spy thriller blockbuster movie franchise. The plot revolves around the adventures of extreme athlete turned government operative Xander Cage, portrayed by actor Vin Diesel.

The second installment of the franchise had rapper O'Shea Ice Cube Jackson Sr. taking on the role of Darius Stone, the new xXx, and was met poorly by both audiences and critics. With Diesel back as the lead for the third film, fans' excitement level for "xXx: Return of Xander Cage" is through the roof.

The trailer, clearly show that it has taken beats from Diesel's other film franchise, "The Fast and the Furious." The high-octane pace, coupled with over-the-top action sequence is very reminiscent of "Fast Five," where the franchise got rid of its street racing roots, and completely embraced its action elements. The new "xXx: Return of Xander Cage" feels like they really jumped the shark.

As far as the cast goes, every bit of action scenes that Donnie Yen is on is completely intense. Fans may notice the wing-chun fighting style that he uses, which he is well-known for in the Ip Man martial arts film franchise.

This time around, Xander Cage is reactivated and recruits a new band of thrill-seeking cohorts in an effort to stop a deadly weapon known as Pandora's Box, as reported by Coming Soon. A fair amount of humor can be found in the trailer, as witty one-liners are present.

"xXx: Return of Xander Cage" according to Forbes does not lack in diversity when it comes to casting. The film also stars Samuel Jackson, Ruby Rose, Donnie Yen, Rory McCann, Toni Collette, Tony Jaa, Nina Dobrev, Deepika Padukone, Danny Wu, and Ariadna Gutierrez. "xXx: Return of Xander Cage" crash its way into theaters on January 20, 2017, and will be directed by D.J. Caruso.
