Petition Circling to Bring Dark Souls 2 to Nintendo's Wii U

As if owning a Wii U wasn't bad enough already, what with updates that can brick the console, and games like Borderlands 2 and Grand Theft Auto V not coming to the platform, as well as losing out on other aspects, Wii U owners were no doubt put off by Namco-Bandai's announcement that the recently announced Dark Souls 2 would be coming to every other system but the Wii U.

But one Wii U owner isn't taking the news lying down. Christopher Marcil has taken it upon himself to pen a petition to have Namco Bandai bring the title to the console.

Marcil's petition claims that the game "can reach an even larger audience by including development for the Nintendo WiiU," and cites the Wii U's tablet style controller as being able to offer some intriguing features to the game, like "managing inventory on the touch screen without having to obscure the player's vision on the TV (the Souls games do not pause, so you must be able to pay attention at all times)."

Marcil also claims the Wii U as a more afordable option for players, citing the high cost of a gaming PC, and the Wii U's "free online play compared to Xbox Live fees on 360 make the WiiU version ideal for anyone who does not have or want a PS3."

To date, the petition has received over 2,200 signatures, barely a foothold in its goal of 100,000. Comparatively, the petition to bring Grand Theft Auto V to PC hit 100,000 signatures in about two weeks time.

As the spritual successor to Demon's Souls, Dark Souls is known as one of gaming's more difficult, dare I say punishing franchises. As a result, Dark Souls 2 on the Wii U would definitely offer a boost to the console in the eyes of Wii U's targeted "hardcore gamer" demographic. But in the end, the decision is up to Dark Souls developer FromSoftware, not Nintendo.

According to a press release, "This new chapter in the Dark Souls saga presents opportunities for us to drive innovation in gameplay design, develop an entirely new story, and expand the scope of the world in which the player interacts with the game. We have taken these necessary steps with Dark Souls II in order to evolve the overall experience of the Dark Souls series."
