The 2024 Golden Joystick Awards just announced the winners for the variety of categories that it features and some of the victors are not surprising, to say the least.

Probably the most notable of the winners is for the Ultimate Game of the Year which goes to Game Science's Black Myth: Wukong. There are also a lot of other categories in this year's awards that were nabbed by some expected and some not-so-expected titles.

For Best Audio Design, we have Astro Bot, which was recently released on the PlayStation 5 earlier this year and was made by Team Asobi. Square Enix's Final Fantasy VII Rebirth was able to take home Best Soundtrack and Best Storytelling.

For Best Indie Game, as well as the Breakthrough Award, which is a critic's choice, LocalThunk's Balatro takes the win. This is particularly noteworthy because the title is a relatively simple card-based game, according to My Nintendo News.

Team Asobi itself also won an award in the 2024 Golden Joystick Awards as the Studio of the Year for its launch of Astro Bot. For Best Gaming Hardware, Valve's Steam Deck OLED is the winner for obvious reasons it brings the PC platform to a handheld device.

Old classic Minecraft also got nominated and won the Still Playing Award which relates for both console platforms and PC. And for the mobile version of the Still Playing Award is Honkai: Star Rail.

Another big winner in the 2024 Golden Joystick Awards is Arrowhead Game Studios' Helldivers 2. The game took home three of the five nominations that it got. These were Best Multiplayer Game, Best Game Trailer, and Console Game of the Year, Yahoo Entertainment said.

Winning Multiple Awards

On top of getting the Ultimate Game of the Year Award, Game Science's soulslike game also won Best Visual Design. Another big contender was Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, which won Best Game Expansion.

Black Myth: Wukong was considered one of the top choices to win the Ultimate Game of the Year Award when it was nominated. This year's awards drew more than 12 million ballots across nearly two dozen different categories.

When it comes to performances, Best Supporting Performer went to Briana White, who played Aerith Gainsborough in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. And for the Best Lead Performer award, Cody Christian took the win for playing Cloud Strife in the same game.

Arguably the most expected win was given to Grand Theft Auto (GTA) VI for being the Most Wanted Game, according to Forbes. All of the awards given to the games, studios, and performers paid respect to the hard work that was put into their success in the industry.
