In case you missed the new trailer for Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2, you can check it out below. Spike's been pulling youtube videos of much of the game footage that debuted at its VGA's last night, so hope you enjoy iframe.
Nice little twist, huh? After the E3 trailer, most of us thought that we'd see Gab...excuse me, Dracula, going up against the Brotherhood of Light while they tried to sieze his castle.
Unless Konami is doing some serious sleight of hand, Lords of Shadow 2 will mark the first time in Castlevania history that big baddie Dracula will be the main character, as well as the first one to feature a setting in the modern age. At least, that's what it looks like.
It also seems as though Dracula has abandoned his trademark whip for a more traditional sword, which makes sense. A vampire that wields the Combat Cross does seem a little out of character.
According to Lords of Shadow 2's producer Dave Cox, this game will end the Shadow saga. With the sequel, Konami and company are "looking to provide series fans yet another nail biter, complete with Dracula's resurrection and the Belmont clan's desire for his final destruction."
For those who didn't play the first game, Castlevania: Lords of Shadow was a reboot for the franchise that saw Gabriel, patriarch of the Belmont clan, ultimately become what the Belmonts come to fight against for centuries, the vampire Dracula.
Not much else is known about the story so far. But since the recent trailer seems to acknowledge the first game's ending, let's assume that Zobek has indeed warned "Gabriel" that the acolytes of Satan are preparing for his return and that the two of them must the demon lord before he can take revenge on both of them. Zobek has promised Dracula that he can free him of his immortality if he helps him.
It seems as though Konami will use the 3DS title Mirror of Fate to fill in what happened between Lords of Shadow 1 and 2. Check out our coverage of Mirror here, and if you have any theories, leave 'em below.
Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 is set for a release in 2013.
