Blizzard will be introducing several major changes in "Overwatch" for its second season. First, Sudden Death will be taken out. Second, the Skill Rating will go through a huge revamp.
"Overwatch" will reportedly have a less-frustrating and more flexible Skill Rating. Previously, "Overwatch" merely included a 100-point scale with 100 being the highest. In the second season of "Overwatch," the scale has been increased to 1-5000 in increments, providing players with a clearer idea of the scoring system. Blizzard will also attempt to take the focus away from Skill Rating and they do not wish for the number to be associated with the competitiveness of players.
Mobile&Apps stated that "Overwatch" will also introduce a tier-based ranking system, which consists of seven tiers. The seven levels will be bronze, silver, gold, platinum, diamond, master and grandmaster. There will be about 500 points difference between the tiers. The "Overwatch" update will not drop out players from their current tier immediately when they lose a match. They will have points deducted, but will not necessarily move down a tier lower.
Furthermore, the "Overwatch" matchmaking system will go through a major revamp, and the game will become stricter in matching players with others of equal strength, instead of simply pitting various players with different skill levels. The new "Overwatch" update will provide a rating decay, which means that players will find their ranking drop if they do not play the game after a number of days.
IGN stated that Sudden Death will be taken out of "Overwatch" since many players complained about the feature. Kaplan said that ties should be quite rare on the hybrid maps and payloads. On Assault maps like Hanamura and Volskaya, the time bank of a team will automatically go up by two minutes if they complete a round in under 30 seconds.
The new "Overwatch" update will increase it to only one minute. On the payloads, a tie will only happen if no one pushes the cart at all. On the hybrid map, ties will only occur if no player captures the payload initially. A tied game will result to both teams getting a meager number of points. More updates and details on "Overwatch" Season 2 are expected soon.
