An upcoming third-person "magical gangster" action RPG, "The Directorate: Novitiate," is coming to early access to PC via Steam in 2025.
The game puts players in the shoes of Mercury, who is a powerful, magical gangster, and dive into a thrilling third-person action RPG experience. You will encounter a variety of supernatural threats, work to track a serial killer across Los Angeles and choose sides as war breaks out.
Upcoming Early Access on Steam
The story of "The Directorate: Novitiate" is set in 2006 in Los Angeles, where the supernatural underworld is currently on the verge of war. Unfortunately, our protagonist, Mercury, has found herself caught in the crosshairs of various factions.
Here, players will have to face overwhelming magical forces, discover the horrors that are hiding in plain sight, and grapple with difficult choices as well as dangerous secrets. Mercury, whose real name is Kana Luna, is thrown into the deep end after returning to a place she once knew as home.

Her life has now become intertwined with the Costa Muerta, which is a Dark Syndicate of the Directorate. Now, Mercury must hone her skills under the guise of her codename in order to rise from the ranks of Novitiate and protect the world that she lives in, according to Gematsu.
The game's key features include the ability to wield guns and magic in intense, action-packed combat. "The Directorate: Novitiate" combines traditional third-person shooter mechanics with the use of magic spells.
A Third-Person Magical Gangster Action RPG
Players can also choose to upgrade their skills and finish enemies off using their Gun Katas, which are powerful acrobatic moves that showcase Mercury's nimble movement. The game features an RPG leveling system where you can improve your offense and defense with various perks and upgrades.
Developer Nesting Games is hoping that "The Directorate: Novitiate" will become one of this year's most memorable games. The studio said that even romance in the game has risks, and every choice has consequences, IGN said.
You will be able to choose between staying loyal to the Edicts of the Directorate or retaining your humanity in the real world. It appears that the game also features duality as a theme. Nesting Games noted that players can "navigate a treacherous path at night as a magical hitman and juggle your normal life during the day."
The Steam page for "The Directorate: Novitiate" suggests that players who enjoy franchises like "Control" or "Alan Wake" have something to look forward to with Nesting Games' upcoming title. It looks to have very similar themes and styles to the aforementioned series, according to WCCFTech.
