While most of us are still stuck playing the demo, the UK's own Play Magazine got their mitts on a copy of Capcom's upcoming Resident Evil 6, rating it a respectable 88 percent.
The issue carries a six-page review of Capcom's newest addition to it's survival-horror franchise, and describes the title as "a Resident Evil worthy of modern times," whatever that means.
"This is arguably the best co-op game available on PS3 alongside Borderlands 2," says Play. All three campaigns of RE6 support co-op play, whether you decide to play an "open" game online, or a private game so you can invite your friends, or use AI controlled teammates.
The review details each individual section - describing Leon's as "the sort of action that would never have been possible with the old Resident Evil framework" and Jake's as "host to Capcom's more ambitious ideas", while Chris' section is held up as the weakest. Ada Wong's campaign is described as "a surprisingly generous addition." Leon's campaign has been compared to the original Resident Evil, taking place in familiar territory like dark corridors and tight passageways, a stark contrast to Chris Redfield's campaign, which sees him blowing his way through hordes of J'avo. Aspects like this have some RE purists critical of this latest addition, saying it's more like the action of Call of Duty than the atmospheric horror Resident Evil helped develop.
Noting this, Play concluded, "While long-term Resident Evil fans might still be disappointed by the nod towards action over horror, Capcom finally has the confidence and know-how to pull it off. It's big, it's brutal, it's ballsy and most of all, it's back."
The rest of us will get our chance at Resident Evil 6 when it goes on sale October 2.
