XBLA is free this weekend, but there's a catch. It's free only for people who have pledged their time to Microsoft's "Gaming and Giving for Good Charity Event." Starting today, Xbox 360 users can play their games and raise money for their local Children's Miracle Network Hospital.
It's kind of like a walk-a-thon, except no physical activity. The steps are as follows:
1. Register and create your personal fundraising page.
2. Raise money by asking your friends and family to donate money for each hour you play.
3. Play video games on Xbox LIVE on August 18 for the number of hours you promised.
Good luck getting people to donate money so you can play videogames.
"Play to Give on Saturday, August 18th!
Don't miss your chance to participate in the upcoming Gaming and Giving for Good (G3) Xbox LIVE charity event on August 18, 2012 to benefit Extra Life, a Children's Miracle Network Hospitals fundraiser.
Play your favorite Xbox 360 games and raise money for your local Children's Miracle Network Hospital. Sign up to participate and gather donations from friends and family - the more you play, the more they give. And, in support of G3, Xbox LIVE is offering a Free Gold Weekend to everyone on the weekend of August 18, 2012."
Event sponsors include some of gaming's major developers and producers, including EA, 2K, Bethesda, THQ, Konami, and others.
