Chrome 21, a newer version of the popular Google web browser, was officially introduced on Wednesday and available for upgrade.
The new browser has fixed 15 security vulnerabilities in the browser. The version now is 21.0.1180.60 and for Mac and Linux it is 21.0.1180.57.
But that's not all.
Chrome 21 now officially supports "getUserMedia" JavaScript API, which will give user's webcam and microphone access to web applications. Whenever a web application wants to access camera or microphone, the browser will pop up a prompt requiring user's permission. The browser also shows what devices are to be used for audio and video. This will help users choose what they want, such as, using a USB headset for audio.
Google released demos highlighting the capability of "getUserMedia" like a virtual xylophone that uses real-time motion tracking via the user's webcam. There's also the emerging WebRTC, which allows real-time audio and video messaging online. This will help services like Google+ Hangouts which can be applied with standards-based web technologies, thus avoiding the need for any plug-ins.
The most important feature of the Chrome 21 is its support for high-resolution retina display for Mac. This feature was announced in June when Apple publicized the retina-enabled Macbook Pro.
Designers fixed one critical flaw, six high-severity flaws, five medium-severity flaws, and three low-severity flaws in the browser. They've expanded support for gamepads, the Gamepad Javascript API gives users access to developers' input from any standard gamepad connected to the user's machine.
