We were wondering when The Last of Us would re-emerge with new footage and possibly hinting at a deeper plot. So it came as a great surprise when we met Bill and his safe house full of traps--at least according to him. In this new footage from Naughty Dog, Joel and Ellie frantically rush into a barred room with a masked man named Bill. The shock comes when he immediately handcuffs Ellie and pulls a gun on his supposed friend.
There's a great nod here to the scene in 28 Days Later when Jim first meets Selena and is forced to be checked for signs of infection. But as Last of Us quickly hints, there may be more to the outbreak and even Joel's past as Bill "owes him a favor." Plus we get to see more of how Ellie may be the toughest and most resourceful of the duo, as she breaks a pipe from a wall and starts wailing on Bill. As for plot advancement for whicever area Bill is in, as it's been hinted by developer Naughty Dog that Pittsburg isn't the only city they're going to run through, Joel and Ellie have to find parts to rebuild a car.
Whether it's the car they crash in the E3 demo, or maybe to build that same car and Bill is an unfortunate prologue, we'll find out later.
The Last of Us comes out for the Playstation 3 in 2013.
