Dredd opened to San Diego Comic-Con audiences on Wednesday night to a generally warm reaction. In fact, almost everyone seems to be digging the action film that has sparse elements of The Raid that give way to old-fashioned superhero powering through the villains. But ultimately, as Movieline points out, it's purely a visceral affair down to Karl Urban never removing his helmet once:
"Much of Dredd revolves around action - the Judges' multi-use combat weapons are neat sci-fi gadgets, and Urban and Thirlby creep around with military precision in their SWAT-esque uniforms, bullets sending balletic sprays of red across the screen."
Which is why this new clip of how Dredd (Urban) and new recruit Judge Anderson (Oliva Thirlby) breach a room as junkies get high on Slo-Mo, a perception-altering drug that makes everything seem slower than it actually is. So what's the point in doing that drug? Aside from looking awesome in 3D and to make a point about rippling waves of shirtless men? Well, just like the point of Dredd, because it just looks cool.
Dredd comes out in 3D on September 21st.
