As "The Dark Knight Rises" inches closer to the release date, July 20, the director of the Batman series, Christopher Nolan, who has made films like "Inception" and "Insomnia", says the movie is his biggest story he ever told of epic proportions.
"It's the biggest story I've told and I'm very excited about it. It's got an enormous amount of things in it that I'm very passionate about it. So, at the moment I'm just really enjoying it", he said in an email interview to IANS.
"By all accounts, 'The Dark Knight Rises' is the definition of epic - shooting on location across three continents, with a daring aerial stunt sequence, a massive crowd scene involving explosions and over 10,000 extras, and a full complement of new gadgets and vehicles. But for me, the massive scale is almost secondary to the emotional headwinds the characters are facing. They (characters) are larger than life and I will miss that because that is not something you can apply to an ordinary story," he added.
Wally Pfister, Oscar winner for his camera works in "Inception", has captured "The Dark Knight Rises" in IMAZ cameras.
Joseph Gordon-Levitt who has earlier acted in Nolan's "Inception" has a mysterious role of John Blake. A new clip of him from the movie debuted on "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" the clip shows John Blake meeting Commissioner Gordon on top of Gotham's Major Crimes Unit, the site of de-commissioned Bat Signal. But Blake has questions about the identity of Batman who has disappeared from Gotham city.
A lot of Batman fans wonder what his role in the movie exactly is, if he is a good or a bad cop. explaining about his role, in an interview to MTV News, he said, "What I love about John Blake is that he's an idealist amongst cynics. Gotham has become a cynical place. People are going with the status quo, and the fat cats are getting fatter. He's this rookie cop who's like, 'Wait a minute,' and asking questions. Questioning authority doesn't always get you the best reception, especially when you're new, but you've got to love a principled guy who actually wants to be a good cop and isn't just looking out for his own job or some sort of kickback. He cares about Gotham and he wants to be a good cop."
Nolan has shot the movie in conventional film method as it heightens the "resolution of the image, the quality, the scale of storytelling". Nolan insists the film will be an "out-of-the-world experience" and filmgoers will have a "unique experience"
Bane, who is acted by fellow Inception star Tom Hardy, will give Batman his biggest challenge yet both physically and intellectually. The new villain appears unstoppable as Nolan grappled to select a villain to cap the epic Batman trilogy.
"[He's] something you've never seen before. Its a little bit of Darth Vader, a little bit of this, little bit of that... It's very unique and that's what you get with great actors like Tom Hardy, he's not just going to go through the motions, he's going to try and craft a character that really makes sense for him. He has really gone in through the roots of the character and approached the evil," said Nolan.
Like Darth Vader's mask, breathing and acting at the same time proves to be a challenge for actor Tom Hardy. Hardy suffered throughout the filming of the Dark Knight Rises as the costumes restricted breathing, movement, but not his acting.
"He had to make himself huge for the role. He learned how to do all of this fighting with Christian Bale, both of them wearing these crazy outfits where they could barely breathe. In Tom's case, with this mask over his face, very tough to breathe, very hot, working in some very challenging environments. There was a lot of preparation that went into it, and it really shows on screen," explained Nolan in an interview with Access.
The Dark Knight Rises is scheduled to hit theatres July 20th.
