The saddest thing to ever happen to a video game character is the racing game. For some, it's the happy evolution into a beloved series that has kept fans and gamers in joyful admiration for almost twenty years like Mario Kart.
And then there's this.
Sonic & All Stars Racing Transformed will probably not be any good. It references Panzer Dragoon, has transforming vehicles and even features explosions. But it won't be any good. In fact, there's no way that a Sonic racing game featuring chracters from Golden Axe, Crazy Taxi, Nights into Dreams, Shinobi and other Sonic characters could be anything but grating dubstep mixed into the black hole that keeps Sega from releasing decent Sonic games. Even promising customizable cars and finally bringing out soundtracks from classic Sega games may not be enough.
The developers can swear up and down that this'll be a distinct shift in the racing dynamics or the water physics are out of this world. But in the end, franchise racers are the equivalent of getting a generic game gift from your grandmother.
Great. Transforming cars AND weapons. We can't wait for Sonic Shindigs That Aren't A Party to come out. Sonic & All Stars Racing is set for nearly every platform on October 16th.
