Since its conception, working with the Microsoft Kinect has been a tool for adventous hackers and people that want to experience a true "altered" reality when it comes to interacting with their technology. Going beyond what Google Glasses could bring, or even how the iOS Yelp! app allows "Monocle" mode, one curious hacker in Japan went to the next level.
He went on a date with a video game character. He didn't serve her breakfast at his computer, but took her out to the park. He plays with her tie and even has her follow him through the street. So just what's going on here? Hackaday goes into the mod that combines a glasses-headset with the Kinect to make one man's date with Japanese video game idol Hatsune Miku a reality.
While it's sort of creepy, the attention to detail and basic design is fascinating. What if you could have a virtual character show you around neighborhoods, as Hackaday suggests, or museums? Imagine a pre-programed augmented reality tour around "Liberty City," or New York, where Niko takes you to his favorite haunts that happen to parallel with actual stores, restaurants or bars.
