The Thrilling Secret Origin of Marvel Vs. Capcom ORIGINS

The two games that launched the franchise get the HD treatment later this month. Capcom announced the release of Marvel vs. Capcom ORIGINS, which is simply a fancy way of saying they remastered their classic Arcade versions of Marvel Super Heroes and Marvel vs. Capcom: Clash of Super Heroes.

The graphically enhanced fighters will be sold together in the bundle with the addition of eight player lobbies, Spectator Mode, saving replays and "dynamic challenges." That could just be another attempt, true believers, to sit you down and spend countless hours hitting a 50+ hit combo to unlock an achievement or trophy, but who knows? It's fun to see the original seeds that would evolve and grow into Marvel vs. Capcom 3, but there's that dread that comes after playing it for so long and going back to different controls and formats. Super Heroes focused on "The Infinity Gauntlet" storyline, letting players collect said gems during matches and use them (e.g. the Time gem slowed down time), but even became useful depending on the character since Spider-Man would gain an alternate Spidey on the other side of his opponent for double damage. This list of possibilites for mixing gems and fighting remains endless--or, actually, listed here. It also gives new players a glimpse to back when Dr. Doom was more than just about that silly downward kick he does and a legit sub-boss.

Clash of Heroes is more in line for what the Vs. series turned into: epic matches of spamming Jin Saotome's tornado attack against War Machine's rockets.

Marvel vs. Capcom ORIGINS is set for release this September on Xbox Live and Playstation Network for $14.00/1299 Microsoft Points.
