Android's latest darling, the Samsung Galaxy S3, has seen skyrocketing preorders for AT&T and Sprint carriers. The demand has been overwhelming with both carriers and Samsung struggling to keep up with shipments.
The new Smartphone was scheduled to hit stores on June 21 offering the 16GB model for AT&T, though a 32GB version hasn't been given a release date. Sprint customers are also being offered a 16GB model in Marble White or Pebble Blue colors.
Those who pre-ordered the device before June 21 received their orders, but other frustrated customers are still waiting for their Smartphones. Announcements from carriers said that the Galaxy S3 will be in stock June 28, but none were seen as the date passed by. Samsung expects to lose sales of 2 million units due to the delays.
Expectations are high for the new Galaxy S3 as it is dubbed the fastest selling device in history. Samsung's Galaxy S3's overseas sales beat out the iPhone 4S by surpassing 4 million sold units in a few days. Samsung's Galaxy S2 sold 10 million phones in 6 months.
This could be some needed good news for Samsung after losing two patent cases to Apple in a week span. Amidst the highly competitive market of mobile devices and tablets, Apple came out on top after a U.S. judge favored the iPad company's request to ban Samsung's Galaxy Tab 10.1 in the states. Shortly after the ruling, Apple was granted a temporary injunction to ban Samsung's Galaxy Nexus phone sales in America.
"Apple has clearly shown that it is likely to suffer irreparable harm in the absence of preliminary injunctive relief," Judge Lucy Koh wrote in the ruling available online.
Apple now has the decision to post a $96 million bond to put into effect the sales ban. The move could give Apple more sway in the heated legal battles. Samsung was guilty of patent issues with allowing the device to locate brining up menus and actions after locating data with numbers or text. Others include the on screen sliding to unlock feature, word prediction, and search interface.
Both Samsung and Apple controls over half of the Smartphone market in the first quarter.
