The relationship between Capcom and Mega Man has been not so hot in the last decade. What once launched as major events across big platforms turned into a jumbled mess of convoluted plot, anime inspired visuals and the worst names in the history of video games (seriously "Mach Jentra?" What does that even mean?) When it comes to recent Mega Man efforts, Capcom has quietly killed them all.
Even during the robot's 25th anniversary, which is being nicely overshadowed by Street Fighter's been officially announced. Except after this CD collection of the last ten soundtracks to the main Mega Man franchise. It thankfully seems to exclue the Mega Man X entries, which fling our hero into a weird far-out all-robot future, or the DS card-based series that owed more to Yu-Gi-Oh than an action side-scroller.
The ten disc collection comes in the shape of the "E" energy pellets Mega Man needed to regain energy. Only now they'll be used to regain our old-school gaming memories. For once, Capcom may be listening to their gaming audience than the people who just want to see the same modern franchises recycled over and over. Could this be the first step in truly honoring Mega Man, after the abrupt dismissal of Mega Man Universe?
It would be a mega awesome surprise if it were.
