Samsung Galaxy S3 was scheduled to have its U.S. grand opening tomorrow on Sprint and T-Mobile. However, fans may have to wait a little longer to see the Android-based device in hand, as some of the shipment has been delayed due to high popularity.
The newest smartphone from the Korean IT giant has started sensation in the tech world since its announcement. Galaxy S3 has already been released in European markets, receiving rave reviews and huge sales that topped Apple’s iPhone series. When it launches in United States, people have expected Samsung to challenge Apple’s throne in the smartphone market.
Samsung has landed deals with five major U.S. carriers, with all of them using same brand name and same design. Sprint and T-Mobile were planning on releasing the device on June 21, followed by Verizon, AT&T, and U.S. Cellular at a later date.
While Sprint and T-Mobile are still hoping to release some models of Galaxy S3 at some of the U.S. markets, but others many have to wait to receive them.
“We are optimistic that we'll be shipping all Samsung Galaxy S3-16GB pre-orders this week and that they will be delivered by June 21 as anticipated,” wrote Sprint on its community forum.
“There is a chance however, that we may be a day or two late. We anticipate shipping all Samsung Galaxy S3-32GB pre-orders this week,” Sprint added.
On the other hand, T-Mobile will release the smartphone on only 29 select markets on schedule date, but pushed back the release date to June 29 for the rest. The select markets will include major cities, such as New York, Los Angeles, Houston, San Francisco, Denver, Cleveland, Portland, and a few more.
Samsung Galaxy S3 will feature a 4.8-inch screen with 1280x720 resolution, protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 2. It is equipped with an 8-megapixle rear and a 1.9-megapixle front camera. It will be powered by a 1.4GHz Exynos 4 Quad processor with 1GB RAM and equipped with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. It will come with three storage space versions, 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB.
Could this delay damage the Android-based smartphone in its quest to challenge Apple’s iPhone? Or could we see it as good news for the company that the Galaxy S3 is extremely popular?
