Apple had a grand opening of its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) today, announcing ground breaking news and updates about Apple products and software.
One of the most anticipated news was about iOS 6, Apple’s next generation of operating system for mobile devices.
Perhaps the biggest change would be the mapping service. As expected from previous rumors, Apple is ditching Google Maps as its default service and uses its own in-house map. The new map from Apple can generate 3D model in “Flyover” feature. The sleek new map is going to challenge Google’s update on its mapping service.
Apple has also updated the Siri, the voice service system, for mobile applications. It expanded its languages and has more integration with other apps. Users are able to launch an app just by speaking to Siri instead of having to find and click. It even allows users to make restaurant reservations by integrating with OpenTable and Yelp.
Another upgrade on the new iOS is the integration with Facebook, which resembles the Twitter integration with the previous version of iOS. Now it will have “tap to post” option right next to the “tap to tweet” button.
Some of the other updates include FaceTime with the ability to connect with non-Apple users, Safari with iCloud tab, easier photo sharing service from Photo Stream, and new features in its Mail app.
