WWDC 2012: Apple iOS 6 could Support iPhone 3GS

With Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) opening in less than 24 hours, rumors are piling up and dazzling iPhone fans. While nothing concrete has been provided on the anticipated MacBook Pro 2012 and iPhone 5, banners of iOS 6, OS X Mountain Lion, and iCloud had been spotted at the Moscone Center West in San Francisco where the conference will start tomorrow.

According to the latest rumor, posted by Apple Insider referring a Chinese website WeiPhone, Apple’s new operating system for mobile, iOS 6, will support the iPhone 3GS that was released back in 2009.

“The details come from a list of links to the Apple Developer Connection website for an iOS 6 beta build labeled ‘10A5316K,’” reported Apple Insider.

“The full list of devices claimed to be supported by the iOS 6 beta are the first-generation iPad, iPad 2, and third-generation iPad; the iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, and iPhone 4S; the fourth-generation iPod touch; and the second- and third-generation Apple TV.”

The link from Weiphone, however, is not valid anymore to verify the information.

Is Apple really planning to have the new operating system to support a model that was released three years ago? We shall find out tomorrow.

In addition to the iPhone 3GS rumor, Apple is expecting to get rid of Google Map as its default mapping service and provide its own in-house map, which some dubbed “iMap”. The new map from Apple is to provide 3D service. The new iOS 6 has also been rumored to have a more integration with Facebook and to upgrade its Siri voice function service. A possible color scheme change from blue to silver had been reported.
