MacBook Pro 2012 Retina Display Rumor: Yes for 15, No for 13

Every time Apple is about to introduce or upgrade its products, rumors spread everywhere in the tech community. Especially with Apple’s World Wide Developers Conference (WWDC) about to start in less than a week, speculations are dazzling the audience with “leaked” information.

One of the hottest issues right now is whether the highly anticipated Retina Display will be equipped on Apple’s new upgraded laptops, MacBook Pro 2012. The Retina Display has been very popular since the iPhone 4 and the new iPad, as Apple claimed the display can improve the image quality to such a level that even the text font with curve edges will be substantially smoother than they are on any previous display technologies.

According to the most recent rumors, the 15-inch MacBook Pro may be equipped with Retina Display, while the 13-inch may not.

Earlier this week, a Chinese website Weiphone disclosed an alleged spec sheet for a 13-inch version MacBook Pro 2012. From the packaging label, we can see that the 13-inch MacBook Pro has a regular display of 1280 by 800 pixels, no where near what Apple would call Retina Display.

Compared to the current 13-in version, the revamped MacBook Pro will have a 2.5 GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 processor (higher than the current 2.4 GHz). The memory has been upgraded from 1333MHz to 1600 MHz DDR3 SDRAM. The Thunderbolt port that supports high-speed I/O and USB 3.0 ports are also among the rumors.

Perhaps another rumor that could make the Mac fan disappointing is that the new 13-inch MacBook Pro will not become thinner, if the leaked spec is indeed credential.

On the other hand, a similar packaging label that states the spec of a 15-inch MacBook Pro is sent anonymously to 9to5Mac.com. According to this version of spec sheet, this new version will feature a 2560×1600 high-resolution Retina display, a 2.6 GHz quad-core Intel Core i7 processor. What’s more, it will become much thinner than the current 15-inch version. 13.92 in by 9.26 in by 0.74 in compared to the current 14.35 in by 9.82 in by 0.95 in.

Of course, both of them could easily be made up by some as a prank. But we will find out once WWDC opens on June 11. Maybe Apple will give us some info about their next iPhone too.
