Unicorns are now counted among the Lord of Terror's minions now that Diablo III's Whimsyshire has been revealed.
Complete with rainbows and smiling clouds, Whimsyshire is an homage of sorts to Diablo II's famed Cow level. The secret level is only accessible to players who manage to assemble the Staff of Herding and bring it to the Ghost of the Cow King, a bovine apparition that appears on Old Tristram road. The necessary items to craft the staff and where to find them are listed below.
- Black Mushroom - Act I, in a room on Cathedral level one
- Wirt's Cowbell - (gotta have more) a vendor sells it for 100,000 gold in Act II
- Gibbering Gemstone - a random drop from Chiltara in the Caverns of Frost
- Liquid Rainbow - Act II, Save the old man and he'll open the Mysterious Chest in the Mysterious Cave of the Oasis
- Leoric's Shinbone - Act I, found in the fireplace of Leoric's Manor
- Plan: Staff of Herding - Act IV, drops from Izual. Used to teach the recipe to blacksmith Haedrig.
While accessible early in the game, it can be quite difficult. Players not at a high enough level can be slaughtered instantly. Check the video below to see the wonders of Whimsyshire for yourself.
