ZeniMax, owner of Bethesda has filed copyright infringement to the developer of iOS app Dragon Shout, a map app for Skryim. The lawyers of ZeniMax have asked the creator of the app to remove the application from the iOS App Store because of "copyright infringement."
However, the creators of the App have claimed that the request did not include a cease & desist notice or have also not specified the violation.
"Zenimax didn't specify what the app is specifically violating," said Rick Blalock creator of Skyrim iOS app Dragon Shout to Touch Arcade.
"I did my best to ensure the app was not violating anything," Blalock added. "I looked up US trademarks and copyrights for 'Dragon Shout' and at the time there wasn't any. I had the map hand drawn. I intentionally didn't use any graphics or wording that would possibly be owned by Bethesda. So, I'm still not sure what they say the app violates," Blalock further said.
ZeniMax filed the case for the term "Fus Ro Dah," which is a dragon shout to unleash powerful shockwave attack in the Skryim game. It helps players to tackle battles and quests.
"We know this to be a dragon shout and there is now reason to believe that this could in some way be connected to the upcoming DLC, which is called Dawnguard just hope we learn more soon," writes InEntertainment.
This is not the first account of Zenimix being protective of their IP's. Last year, the company had controversies with Mojang's Minecraft over its use of the trademark "Scrolls."
"ZeniMax's legal team is notorious for being protective of its IPs - and a little bit litigious too. Last year it got into a dispute with Minecraft creator Markus 'Notch' Persson over his new game 'Scrolls'," reports ComputerAndVideoGames.
As of now, there is no report of any legal action that will be taken against the developers of the iOS Dragon Shout app and players can still download it from the iOS app store for free. Players can get the version 1.5, the social add-on which includes database searching, marker sharing and chat.
Skyrim players may also be interested in a series of mods released with Skyrims' Creation Kit. The free DLC can be shared through Valves Steam platform as it allows players to customize Dragon Bone Weapons and more.
"The purpose of the mod is to make the Dragon Bone Smithing perk worth getting after Deadric Smithing and the weapons are meant to fit in as seamlessly as possible with Bethesda's original Dragon Bone armor," according to the mod's creator.
