Samsung has finally launched its newest flagship smart phone Galaxy S3 in London, and the battle between mobile phone just got hotter. People have been wondering for weeks whether this new device from the South Korean company could be the next iPhone killer. And we can't also forget about the current king among the Android phones, HTC One X.
In order to help you decide on your next shopping for a smart phone, we will attempt to compare Galaxy S3, iPhone 4S, and One X. Here we go.
Size: Samsung Galaxy S3 clearly wins with its giant size... Or does it?
Galaxy S3 features its giant size with a 4.8-inch Super AMOLED HD display. It is slightly bigger than One X, who has a display size of 4.7 inch, and quite a lot bigger than the 3.5-inch Apple iPhone 4S. So does it mean Galaxy S3 wins?
Not so fast.
The bigger size could attract more people, but there is a point that it could become too big. Has Samsung reached that point yet? Some people have been saying that Samsung's previous model with 4.5-inch display was already too big for them.
One could argue that Galaxy S3 is still attractive, being thinner than iPhone 4S and One X.
Professor and Memory: Four better than two
New Galaxy S3 sports a quad-core 1.4 GHz Exynos processor with a 1GB of RAM. In comparison, Apple iPhone 4S has a dual-core 1GHz A5 processor and 512MB of RAM, and One X has a dual-core 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 with a 1GB or RAM.
The numbers suggest that Galaxy S3, with is quad-core, will be much faster than One X. The side-by-side benchmark testing on the actual performance isn't available yet, but it will be safe to assume that Galaxy S3 wins this category.
Apple is clearly behind the other two smart phone leaders.
Camera: Zero Shutter Lag
Both Galaxy S3 and One X have 8-megapixle rear-facing cameras while iPhone 4S has a 5-megapixle camera. They are all capable of taking 1080p video.
Samsung added cool new camera features to Galaxy S3, including the zero shutter lag that allows pictures to be captured almost instantaneously. This could be the most attractive part about Galaxy S3 camera.
Burst shot, where it takes 20 photos quickly and automatically suggests the best one, is also introduced on the new phone.
User Interface: Classic Android vs. iOS debate all over again
Galaxy S3 and One X run Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, and iPhone 4S is equipped with iOS 5. The question of which is superior between Android and iOS have been debated for years, and it is really a matter of preference. One has more functions, and one is easier to use. We will leave it at that.
The comparison between HTC's Sense 5 UI overlay versus Samsung's TouchWiz overlay will be a matter of preference as well.
Conclusion?
The new Galaxy S3 is undoubtedly startling in specs and features compared to others in the market. It is too early to tell whether the South Korean smart phone maker could lure Apple and HTC customers away.
The Galaxy S3 maker has been reported by the Wall Street Journal that they are aiming to "dent [Apple's] market share ahead of an expected new version of Apple's iPhone".
