Gaming development company 343 Industries released more details about its highly anticipated title Halo 4 that will introduce a new experience on its multiplayer gameplay mode.
The first person shooter will introduce perks through its online multiplayer platform. Halo 4's introduction of new features may create some uneasiness with fans as the latest title looks to revolutionize the franchise with deeper story plots and expanded level exploration.
"What we showed today is in some ways really traditional," said Frank O'Connor, director of 343 Industries. "Some of the more revolutionary stuff that we're going to be doing is going to create more fuss, and I think it's going to be mostly positive fuss, as it's all been carefully thought out and considered."
Though the new perks system appears cutting edge for Halo 4, the feature has already been utilized by Infinity Ward's hugely popular Call of Duty series.
"I've never worked for Infinity Ward, or Respawn - for years I bet they were asked similar questions about how it's like the multiplayer system in Halo 2 or something like that," said O'Connor. "We're not chasing anybody else's tail - all the pressure comes from inside."
"What we do take very seriously is changing player habits. So rather than chasing Call of Duty or Battlefield and trying to do their thing and doing it poorly and doing injustice to it, we're trying to do our own thing, and do something fairly original but still something that's completely compatible with the Halo universe."
Microsoft revealed the new features not long after Sony has revealed that Call of Duty will be available on its new handheld console on the PlayStation Vita. The PS Vita Version of the Call of Duty will include the Modern Warfare series such as new multiplayer maps, Special Ops missions and more.
343 Industries and Microsoft will seek to continue the successful Halo legacy with Halo 4, which is scheduled to for release this holiday season.
