The Linsanity hype has influenced 2k Sport's NBA 2k12 with the recent rating updates and built up the game's popularity. More and more gamers are now playing Jeremy Lin and the Knicks in the virtual simulated basketball video game.
2K Sport Community Manager, Ronnie Signh, comments that Jeremy Lin is no doubt causing a lot of hype. The player ranking currently sits at 75 but may increase up to 80 or beyond.
NBA 2K12 features a living roster component that updates players and teams based on winning or losing streaks. With Lin's magnificent performances, NBA 2K12 boosted his ratings from a 56 to a 69. But soon after, another release was posted bumping Lin up to a 75.
The Linsanity hype along with breaking news that EA will return to the NBA game market with NBA Live 13 can potentially churn out a game cover featuring Jeremy Lin. Possibilities may also lie with 2K Sports and its next NBA 2K13 cover.
NBA 2K13 may face some competition with EA Sports relaunching its NBA franchise with NBA Live 13. The brand was disbanded after the game was littered with technical bugs, poor gameplay, and negative feedback from the gaming community. Since then EA has become an underdog as 2K Sports dominated the NBA game simulation field.
Jeremy Lin began his journey as an underdog but his recent string of extraordinary on-court performances led to boosted video game ratings, an NBA 'Rising Star' selection, his Knicks jerseys becoming a top selling item, along with a signed rookie card that is being sold for $20,000+ on eBay. There is no doubt that Lin has sparked something in both the NBA and the virtual video game world.
