A decade after its initial release, Dark Souls 2 players have reason to celebrate as modders introduce a significant upgrade to the game's performance capabilities. Released on March 13, DS2FrameUnlimiter, a mod developed by emoose, revolutionizes the gameplay experience of Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin. The mod liberates the game from its 60 frames per second (fps) cap, enabling players to delve into the treacherous world of Drangleic at framerates exceeding 120fps.

Enhanced Gameplay and Work in Progress
DS2FrameUnlimiter not only removes the default frame limiter but also addresses speedup issues commonly associated with high framerates. According to the mod's description on NexusMods, health and stamina dynamics remain consistent with the 60fps version, ensuring a balanced gameplay experience. Moreover, critical elements like weapon degradation rates, jump mechanics, and cloth physics exhibit stability across various framerates.
However, emoose acknowledges that DS2FrameUnlimiter is a work in progress. While the mod enhances the single-player experience, its impact on multiplayer functionality remains under evaluation. Presently, the mod is only compatible with offline mode to prevent potential disruptions in online gameplay. The modder emphasizes the importance of ensuring compatibility with multiplayer to prevent adverse effects on the Dark Souls 2 community.

Despite initial mixed reception, Dark Souls 2 has garnered appreciation over the years for its challenging gameplay and immersive world design.
