You may have seen a supposed "PS4 Reveal" video that's been making the rounds online in the past 24 hours, composed of a lot of jump cuts, even less game footage, and creepy extras with PS controller buttons laid over their eyes.
Given Sony's penchant for creepy advertising, the clip had quite a few fooled, but it's nothing more than the ork of a fan. Alebeit, a very talented, dedicated fan. The footage below is the one in question, and while it looks good at first, there's a few questions that should be raised.
The console itself can be seen in interspersed shots throughout the video's duration, which is something of a cause for concern. Even during the official announcement from Sony, the console was never officially shown, so it's hard to deny whether the device seen in the commercial is legit. At the :26 mark, and you can see logos for Blu-Ray, DVD, Dolby Digital, DTS-HD, and Bluetooth. The icons appear in a similar order as they do on late model PlayStation 3's, and their texts and logos are unusually highlighted.
The most noticeable cause for concern is that the only discernable game footage is from inFamous: Second Son. While it is indeed a PS4 title, you'd think there would be some footage from some of the other confirmed games, like Killzone: Shadows Fall, or Grand Theft Auto 5. Likewise, there's also no shots of the PS4 controller, alone or anyone using it.
As the old saying goes, if it looks to good to be true, it probably is. Case in point, Kotaku reports that a representative from Sony of America has told the site that despite how good it looks, the trailer isn't one of theirs.
Sorry folks, but we'll have to wait 'til E3.
