Apple unveiled its new mobile operating system, iOS 6 during the World Wide Developers Conference (WWDC). It's "the world's most advanced mobile operating system" as stated on the banners of the conference in San Francisco. We bring for you some of the top features and innovations that have come in iOS 6.
New Map Apps: For the first time, Apple has come with its own map with 3-D Views and turn-by-turn spoken directions doing away with Google maps. The new Map Apps uses Maps uses vector-based engine making the text crisp, graphics clear, and its panning and zooming smooth and responsive. It comes with photo-realistic, interactive 3D views.
Siri Technology: Siri comes with more languages and will be available for the new iPad 2. Siri can show the latest reviews and showtimes. It will help users know more about Sports, Restaurants and Movies. This technology will allow social networking more fun and easy. Users can update Facebook status, post comment or tweet simply by identifying the voice.
FaceTime: FaceTime is possible on cellular networks and Wi-Fi. Users can make and receive FaceTime calls on iPad with one's own number.
Safari: Safari will enable iOS 6 with web browsing on iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch easier. With the iCloud Tabs, keeping track of pages opened on devices will be quicker as users can pick up right where one has left off. With Safari, web pages can be saved along with a reading list so users can catch up on reading even when not connect to the Internet.
Accessibility: iOS 6 will make people with vision, hearing, learning, and mobility disabilities to get the most from their iOS devices. It comes with Guided Access that will help students with disabilities. The VoiceOver app, the revolutionary screen reader for blind and low-vision users, has been integrated with Maps, AssistiveTouch, and Zoom.
The new operating system, iOS 6 has made sharing photos much easier through the Photos app, one can tap the Share button and those using iCloud on an iOS 6 device or a Mac running Mountain Lion can get the photos delivered immediately in the Photos app or iPhoto.
The device has also been integrated with Passbook which will allow users to scan the iPhone or iPod touch to check in for a flight, get into a movie, and redeem a coupon. We may be seeing the iPhone 5 getting an iOS 6 installment along with its next-gen hardware and software features. It is also rumored that the next-gen smartphone will boast a 4-inch retina display along with an edge to edge screen display.
Apple iPhone 5 is expected to hit stores at some point in summer or fall.
