The first update for Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart in two years just arrived and prepares the title for an enhanced version with the PlayStation 5 Pro.

Developer Insomniac Games has largely been done with working on the game for quite some time now. The only other thing that happened was that the studio released a PC version of the game in 2023.

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart Update

The latest patch, update 1.005.000, is now available for players to download on their PlayStation 5 consoles. What is noteworthy about this is that it prepares the way for the game's inevitable transition to the PlayStation 5 Pro, coming on Nov. 7, 2024.

To do this, the developers added a series of new graphical options that will be able to make the most out of the increased performance of the PlayStation 5 Pro console. There is nothing else that is actually worth talking about other than these tweaks, according to Comic Book.

Insomniac Games also introduced a fix to Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart. This is related to the wetness of Ratchet's fur during specific cutscenes. The game is still very much the same as it was before other than these changes.

The game now has a Performance Pro mode that targets a smooth 60 frames per second while still maintaining the image quality of the standard Fidelity mode. This is done through the use of PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR).

The Fidelity Pro mode will instead try to maintain 30 frames per second but will have new ray-tracing graphical features. Insomniac Games called these features an "experiment" in the official patch notes, PSU said.

These experimental features can be individually tuned to reach higher intermediate frame rates. This is especially true when players use the "VRR" or "120 Hz Display Mode" options. The developers have cautioned that pedestrian and traffic density may be increased in some areas.

The latest update also introduces new graphical toggles, such as RT Reflections Medium for Performance and High for Fidelity, which is the default. This allows you to set the quality level for ray-traced reflections.

Another feature added is the RT Ambient Occlusion where the Medium setting will provide information to "augment" screen-space ambient occlusion. On the other hand, the High setting will add on-screen global illumination bounces.

Players may notice that their mileage may vary depending on the scene within the game. However, they will also have the ability to turn it off so that they can improve their game's performance, according to Gaming Bolt.
