Microsoft confirmed that it plans to release more Xbox games to other platforms. This would include PlayStation and Nintendo.
CEO Satya Nadella recently talked about a new push to release Xbox games on competing platforms. He argued that this effort would allow for greater access to these Xbox brands, which is important following the acquisition of Activision Blizzard.
Microsoft's Multiplatform Push
Nadella did not provide any detailed information about which games they plan to bring from Xbox to PlayStation or Nintendo. However, the recent statements suggest that Microsoft has an intricate plan that it intends to follow.
The Microsoft CEO said that they will bring amazing games to more people on more devices. Following the acquisition of Activision Blizzard in October 2023, they added hundreds of millions of players to their ecosystem.
The company now has 20 franchises that have generated more than $1 billion in revenue over their lifetimes. These include Candy Crush and the Diablo series as well as Warcraft and Elder Scrolls, according to Comic Book.

On top of this, Xbox cloud gaming allowed Microsoft to continue to innovate and offer players more ways to play the games that they love. The service allowed them to experience the titles where, when, and how they wanted.
Microsoft also brought four of its fan-favorite titles to the Nintendo Switch and PlayStation consoles for the first time. This was also part of the company's efforts to extend its content to new platforms.
Giving More Players Access to More Games
Xbox insider eXtas1s recently claimed that fan backlash to Indiana Jones and the Golden Circle's PlayStation announcement had some negative effects. It apparently led to Microsoft slowing down future PS5 ports of Xbox first-party games, Game Rant said.
The four titles that Nadella noted that arrived on other platforms are Sea of Thieves, Grounded, Pentiment, and Hi-Fi Rush. Among these, the success of Sea of Thieves was seen when it sold one million copies on PlayStation 5.
This could have been one factor that caused Microsoft to become even more interested in going on a multiplatform strategy. Some people argued that Halo and the Forza series should also be among the franchises that get selected because of their popularity.
The situation comes as the Call of Duty franchise has been multiplatform for quite some time now and is arguably one of Microsoft's most popular games. Some people argue that Starfield could also go multiplatform at some point in the future, which makes sense, according to The Gamer.
