Fans have been waiting long for the release of Digimon Survive, which was delayed and pushed back several times. But now, after about four years of delay, it finally has a release date. Digimon Survive is expected to be launched on July 28 for Playstation 4, PS5, and Nintendo Switch.

The information was released by the Japanese publishing house insider ryokutya2098, which provides updates from upcoming magazine issues. The information about the upcoming release is from the new April issue of V Jump of 2022.

'Digimon Survive' Will Be Darker

Digimon Survive tells an original story, unlike any anime or game, although it still shares some common themes. A group of students comes across Koromon while on a trip during the summer camp. Shortly afterward, the group is attacked by wild Digimon. Koromon digi-volves into Agumon, which makes them realize they have been taken to another world.

The biggest difference from Digimon Survive compared to previous Digimon games and anime is its "darker" look. According to the series producer, Kazumasa Habu, the series will explore a lot of adult themes, such as manifestations of self-harm by harming one's own Digimon. He said, "If you are a fan of the TV anime or other Digimon works, you may find some of the descriptions unpleasant, so please be aware of this in advance."

'Digimon Survive' Will Also Be Released On Xbox

Survive will be played as a visual novel, where players will have to decide on the path they choose to take as they traverse the new Digital World. They will either succeed or fail in this path filled with multiple outcomes. The game will include elements of visual novel gameplay merged with those of survival strategy RPGs. There are multiple endings to the story. Players can expect about 40 hours per route and about 100 hours to see and do everything. There is also a "true" ending.

The game itself is also to be released for PC via Steam, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X / S, although these were not mentioned in the inside information provided by ryokutyou. The Japanese version of the game was to be released on PlayStation and Switch, but the worldwide trailer also shows that it will also be released for PC and Xbox. Ryokutyou did not also specify whether this will be a simultaneous release to all regions, so we can still expect more updates in the near future.

Delays Were Due to Change of Developers

Digimon Survive was first announced in July 2018, also through the V Jump magazine. The game's release was delayed at least once in 2019, 2020 and 2021 for several reasons, including a change in the engine used in development. The COVID-19 pandemic also further complicated things for the game.

Fans lost enthusiasm during the DigimonCon in February, when Bandai Namco announced again that the game was delayed again after changing developers. During the event, producer Kazumasa Habu said, "changing teams has led to a lot of rework on the game, leading to delays. This has caused a lot of uncertainty that prevented us from giving regular updates."

But with this current news, it seems that bright things are in store for this much-anticipated game.
