Today Sony has announced some brand new media apps for the PlayStation Vita. Via the PlayStation Blog, we're seeing such apps as Crunchyroll come to the portable console as soon as today. Sony has also revealed some other apps launching later in the spring, but let's detail what's coming soon, shall we?
Three new Vita media apps will be arriving later today with the PlayStation Store update. The first, which is widely popular, is Crunchyroll – an anime streaming service where loads of different shows can be watched almost as soon as they have aired on television. Want to watch "Attack on Titan" on-the-go? Go ahead (permitting you have a wireless connection).
The next is the NHL GameCenter Live streaming app which will allow for, well, NHL HD streaming from live games. Just don't go throwing your Vita like a hockey puck when your team is losing.
The third app to be dropping today is Quello. Quello is a concert, documentary, and stage show app for watching content about musicians and artists.
The above apps will be available today, but the following will be released in the spring. Gaima TV – a channel for those seeking healthy and culturally rich lives; Hulu Plus – a service that lets you catch all of your favorite shows at your convenience; and lastly, Redbox Instant – Verizon's Netflix competitor that may or may not be the reason why Netflix quality has gotten worse for people with Verizon as their ISP.
More choices mean more happy people, I think. I'm a bit disappointed that Sony didn't announce a Twitch app to go alongside their focus on sharing on the PS4, but oh well; maybe next time. I'd just like to watch some streams from the comfort of my bed rather than my desk.
The first batch of new media apps will be available for download in the Vita app section of the PlayStation Store later today.
