Xbox One News: Console's Price Cut at UK Retailer

Zavvi Drops Xbox One Price By £20

We keep hearing how the price of Microsoft's Xbox One is a big reason why the console is having a tough time keeping up with Sony's own next-gen console, the PlayStation 4. Traditionally, price cuts aren't expected for consoles this early in their respective lifespans. But one U.K. retailer is bucking the trend, having already dropped the console's cost by about 5 percent.

If you head over to the listing for the console on the retailer's site, you'll see that U.K. gamers with shallow pockets now have a better chance at nabbing a Xbox One all their own. The retailer dropped the Xbox One's price from its original sales cost of £429.99 down to £409.99. To put things in perspective, this would be a rough conversion of $706 and $673 respectively. It's not a giant cut, but a cut nonetheless.

It's dfficult to compare the new price for the platform with Sony's PlayStation 4, as the retailer is only selling the "Ultimate Bundle" for the latter.

Microsoft hasn't made any official announcement regarding a price cut, so this is more than likely an independent move by the retailer, but it's unkown exactly why.

Earlier this month, Microsoft announced that the Xbox One had sold over three million consoles in 2013. Not to be outdone, Sony's own CEO Kaz Hirai revealed during a keynote at CES that Sony had pulled an upset over Microsoft, announcing that has managed to sell over 4.2 million of its own PlayStation 4 since the console launched in November.

Microsoft's Xbox One claims an 8-core x86 processor and Microsoft hopes it will take the place of the family room cable box by letting you watch Blu-ray movies and TV through the console, in a "seamless transition" that lets players switch from playing games to watching shows and/or movies. It will come fully loaded with 8GB of RAM and a 500GB hard drive.

The console's exclusives include Dead Rising 3Killer InstinctRyse: Son of Rome, and more. You can check out a list of the install sizes for all of the launch games here. Unless you're shopping at Zavvi, the Xbox One retails for $499 just about everywhere else.
