Better step your game up Dominos, because Pizza Hut is going next-gen. The $500 Xbox One is finally pulling its weight, if only by making it a tad easier to shovel mountains of cheese and dough down your greasy pie hole. Just like they've done with the Xbox 360, Pizza Hut is bringing its app to the Xbox One, letting gamers order grub via Microsoft's latest console.
Ironically enough, GamerFitNation was the first to report the app's forthcoming arrival, speaking with Pizza Hut's PR Director, Doug Terfehr, during the tradeshow within a tradeshow, Pepcom at CES.
"The Xbox One app ordering experience is coming. Right now, it's strictly through the 360, which is still in 45 million households across America. We started there, we introduced it last year, and it's really incredible."
It's not just pizza you can order, but whatever the "restaurant" features on its menu. So if you're in the mood for some wings, pasta, or maybe some of those cinnamon sticks, you can order it up through a few simple hand motions. Explained Terfehr, "It works through your Kinect system, so with hand swipes you could add more pepperoni; with hand swipes you could remove cheese, so it's all interactive like that. You could make it a large pizza, or a small pizza; you could add another pizza on it; you could put sauce on your wings, all that, it's very interactive."
"Our purpose of creating that app was to fit in with what gamers do and make it very interactive, so we just don't want to have an app out there that was very kind of stale with its experience. We wanted it to be engaging and really cool, and that's what we've done."
While it's a novel idea, why not just pick up the phone to place an order instead of waving your hands through the air like you're swatting invisible insects? Or go to an actual pizzeria? Apart from the obvious face that not everyone lives in the tri-state area to get actual decent pizza (don't you DARE try to argue that Chicago's deep dish garbage is a worthy competitor), its because there's actually an incentive to flail around like a mozzarella madman to satisy that monkey on your back.
"The biggest thing that we think will come when the Xbox One app comes out is more unique offerings, more unique deals," continued Terfehr. "That experience on Xbox One is so incredible, we want you to have some advantages to use the Pizza Hut app through that, so it might be exclusive deals, you may be able to use your points in order to be able to redeem for pizzas, there's a lot of things that we've been discussing to be able to really enhance that experience through Xbox Live and Xbox One."
When Pizza Hut first launched its app over the summer, the company sweetened the pot by knocking off a percentage off of all orders made before a certain date. While the app isn't here yet for the Xbox One, it's on the way, and we'll be sure to let you know when it gets here.
