Xbox One News: Microsoft Responds to Reports of Xbox One Leaking Liquid, Possible Explanation [VIDEO]

Fans Think Xbox One Fluid Leak Related to Capacitors, Microsoft Not Familiar the Issue

Shortly after Christmas, at least two Xbox One owners were reporting that their consoles were apparently leaking some kind of fluid. Given that only two owners had made the complaint, people were skeptical of their authenticity, but it was seemingly enough of an issue that it caught the attention of various outlets, as well as Microsoft.

User CynicalAnarchy first reported on the Xbox Support forum that there was "some kind of oil" coming out of the vent. Thankfully, it's not causing any problems, but it's the sort of thing that definitely catches attention. Another owner, Toys R Us Creep, reported a similar problem with the Day One edition, but the issue eventually resolved itself.

First and foremost, I know nothing about the console's inner workings, but it's been suggested that the substance could possibly be thermal compound, or capacitor fluid. Most people talking about the issue seem to think it has something to do with the latter.

A NeoGAF user by the name of zorlaczerhero introduced a video of a capacitor bursting and leaking electrolyte, showing a potential cause for the issue. Check it out below:

Unfortunately, Microsoft would be the best place to go to if this is indeed a legitimate cause, but the company's recent response is a little lacking.

A company representative recently told GamesBeat: "While we have not seen any cases as described, we know that with a hardware launch of this magnitude customers will have questions, and we have many avenues for them to get the answers they need and get back into the game as soon as possible. Anyone who believes they are experiencing issues with their Xbox One should reach out to us."

Previous reported problems for the Xbox One include smoking, and faulty disc drives unable to read game discs, and making "grinding, crunching, and clicking sounds."

Microsoft's Xbox One claims an 8-core x86 processor and Microsoft hopes it will take the place of the family room cable box by letting you watch Blu-ray movies and TV through the console, in a "seamless transition" that lets players switch from playing games to watching shows and/or movies. It will come fully loaded with 8GB of RAM and a 500GB hard drive.

The console's exclusives include Dead Rising 3, Killer Instinct, Ryse: Son of Rome, and more. You can check out a list of the install sizes for all of the launch games here. The Xbox One retails for $499.
