The Boston Celtics have been linked to NBA trade rumors with DeMarcus Cousins frequently mentioned. Nothing has materialized so far but the trade deadline is still a couple of months off.
While the trade rumors involving Cousins seem to be running forever, there is no clear target for Danny Ainge and coach Brad Stevens right now. It may boil down to where the team can improve as it tries to pick up from the acquisition of Al Horford, CBS reported.
Names such as Rudy Gay, Nerlens Noel, and Andrew Bogut have frequented the NBA trade headlines but are these players the Celtics need? These are tested cagers that could improve the cause of the Celtics though the end-result is what Ainge and company are more interested in.
Players that the Celtics could target may not be the ones in trade rumors. John Wall, Paul Millsap, or even Anthony Davis could be interesting deals but their respective teams are unlikely to part with them that easily.
Aside from that, there are a couple of factors to consider. There is NBA free agency this coming Summer where a new group of players will likely test the market for higher pay.
The other is sending off some of their young core for veterans. Marcus Smart, Isaiah Thomas, and Avery Bradley are seen as guards of the future so dealing them off could be risky for Ainge and Stevens.
Right now, most are hearsay as far as the Boston Celtics and trade deals are concerned, Celtics Blog reported. Ainge knows better than to take in high-priced players at this point and not get immediate results. Add to the fact that some of them may not even be around after this season and the plot thickens all the more.
The Celtics have made headway through the years and some pieces like Horford were added this year. An evaluation will be forthcoming, more or less dictating if manpower improvement is needed or not before February 2017.
