Julie Plec has already mentioned that "The Vampire Diaries" ending without Nina Dobrev would be incomplete. And it looks like fans will get what they want as "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8 latest details points to the return of Nina Dobrev, but not as Elena Gilbert. Instead Dobrev might reprise her role as Katherine Pierce. Latest spoilers also point to Ian Somerhalder turning human at the end of "The Vampire Diaries" season 8.
Digital Spy reports that "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8 showrunner Julie Plec has two endings in mind, and it depends on whether Nina Dobrev will want to be back. Nina Dobrev parted from the series in season 6, with her character Elena Gilbert in a sleeping trance, leaving a heartbroken Damon Salvatore (Ian Somerhalder.)
But it might not be over for Elena Gilbert and Damon Salvatore in "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8. Things could still turn around and the couple may still get a happy ending, if Ian Somerhalder, who plays Damon Salvatore, will become human again. Then this will ensure that Elena Gilbert and Damon Salvatore can be together.
The latest episode in "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8 titled "Eternity of Misery" hints at a Nina Dobrev comeback, and may very well set the stage for a Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder team up. Damon Salvatore is under the trance of Sybil, a powerful siren, and in the episode, her sister Seline appears and kills Alaric's assistant Georgie.
TV Guide speculates that the way Georgie exited is much like what happened to Katherine Pierce, who is now in Hell. It seems that Nina Dobrev will make an appearance as Katherine Pierce in the future episodes on "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8. It remains to be seen though whether Nina Dobrev as Katherine Pierce will help Ian Somerhalder as Damon Salvatore. Maybe being in hell will give Katherine Pierce the motivation to help Damon Salvatore and Elena Gilbert be together once again.
