NFL 2016 Latest News & Update: Jerry Jones Close To Realizing Dak Prescott Potential

Jerry Jones favors Tony Romo but the nostalgia tied up to that should be measured on where the Dallas Cowboys are right now. He may have forgotten that his team is toting an impressive 5-1 record, all done through the exploits of Dak Prescott.

At 23, no one expected Dak Prescott to be this good though the wait on Tony Romo has cast a dark light on his future at starting quarterback. Romo has been out and is on the road to recovery and Jones claims that the starting role will once again go to the veteran.

Experience is seen as the prime reason for the move (if it eventually happens) though it carries a lot of risks, the Bleacher Report reported. With a humming Cowboys to date, an unneeded change at the quarterback position could waste the breakthrough that Jason Garrett and company have accomplished so far.

Dak Prescott setting records

While Dak Prescott made it clear that he is not after the starting quarterback role, Jones may need to open his eyes to reality. The 23-year-old’s latest achievement includes breaking the record previously held by Tom Brady for pass completions without an interception now pegged at 176, SB Nation reported.

Prescott achieved the feat when the Cowboys added the Green Bay Packers to their list of conquered teams (30-16). The rookie could have padded that record, even more, had it not for an interception by Morgan Burnett.

Tony Romo return delayed

With the breakout of Dak Prescott, the word is that Tony Romo will not be rushed back to the field until he is proving to be 100 percent healthy. Even with that said, Jones is not budging. Obviously playing safe, the Cowboys ream owner will likely step in when the situation arises.

Romo is expected to return either in week 8 or 9 where Dallas will have to decide. Stopping Prescott from his rise is in their hands but could also be detrimental to how far the Cowboys can go this 2016 NFL season.
