Fans were able to get a glimpse at Mads Mikkelsen's character in the latest trailer released for "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story." While the film is set to introduce fans to a whole set of new characters, Mikkelsen's Galen Erso may be the most important character in the film. However, the team remains mum about Galen Erso but speculations started to rise after the trailer was released.
Who Is Galen Erso?
"Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" will reportedly introduce a new set of characters that will include Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones) -- the reluctant hero to the director -- and the creepy Director himself Orson Krennic (Ben Mendelsohn). Mads Mikkelsen's character was finally revealed in the second and final trailer for "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story."
In "Rogur One: A Star Wars Story," viewers will meet Galen Erso, father of Jyn and a key character in building the first weapon of mass destruction, Vine Report said. However, the online publication delved deeper into Galen's story particularly on how he ended up working for the Empire and how he got separated from his daughter.
A synopsis for the prequel novel titled "Catalyst" provided a back story for Galen in "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story." Orson Krennic was the one who took Galen and Jyn under his wing. He offered Galen to work on his inventions, without realizing that he is actually working on the Death Star that has the potential of destroying the planet. When Galen found out the truth, he planned to escape Orson, however, he was not fortunate to escape him.
'Rogue One: A Star Wars Story'
In contrast to previous impressions that Galen Erso is one of the villains, the new trailer for "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" offered a different glimpse into Mads Mikkelsen's character. To recall, the first trailer revealed that it was Galen who informed Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) about the dangerous weapon.
It is still unknown though how the rebel got the message. Most of Galen's scene would be flashbacks from Jyn and other characters. Kiri Hart, screenwriter and developer previously admitted to EW that the team is hesitant to reveal more information about Galen for fear of giving too much away.
"Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" is slated to hit the theaters on December 16. Check out the new trailer below.
