"The Get Down" season 2 is surrounded with cancellation rumors just after airing the first half of the season. The most expensive show of Netflix as of date has gained not so stellar ratings, which prompted the cancellation rumors. However, the series director denied the rumors and insisted that it's doing extraordinarily well.
'The Get Down' Season 2 On The Works?
Director Baz Luhrmann was not amused to hear that his show has flopped and "The Get Down" season 2 won't be aired, NY Daily News reported. Nor was he thrilled to hear one of the stars had died. Rumors have it that Jaden Smith -- who portrays Marcus "Dizzie" Kipling -- reportedly died in an apparent suicide. However, "The Get Down" season 2 cast and crew are currently filming the second season, which includes Jaden Smith as well.
"It's funny, those rumors, because I'm shooting (season) two today, we're shooting it right now," he told the publication at the Clio Awards on the Upper West Side. Contrary to rumors, Luhrmann said that "The Get Down" season 2 has avid followers and that it actually performed extraordinarily well in the first run. He also slammed rumors saying that the hip-hop drama is Netflix's most expensive show produced at $122 million.

Jaden Smith Not Dead
Several websites reported hoax death news of Jaden Smith early in July and it appears that the rumors are not entirely dead. "The internet's a funny thing because I can tell you it's absolute rubbish," Baz Luhrmann stated. The "Moulin Rouge" director finds it upsetting to learn that "The Get Down" season 2 star is constantly bombarded with death rumors. If you follow "The Get Down" official Twitter account, you'll see constant updates about the series and that include appearances of Skylan Brooks, Jaden Smith and TJ Brown.
Since the rumors have been put to rest, expect a whole new level of "The Get Down" season 2 on Netflix next year. The show will reportedly advance forward into the 80's; the era of Prince and Michael Jackson according to Christian Post. While the premiere for season 2 hasn't been confirmed, the second half of "The Get Down" season 1 is set to air on 2017. Meet the cast of "The Get Down" in the video below.
