'The Flash' Season 3 Premiere Officially Titled 'Flashpoint'; 5 Things We Expect From The Upcoming Season

"The Flash" Season 3 is currently in development and there are rumors that the plot will follow the "Flashpoint" storyline in the comics.

According to Grant Gustin, who plays Barry Allen/The Flash, he already read the premiere script of Season 3. After executive producer Greg Berlanti consented, Gustin tweeted that the title of Season 3 Episode 1 is "Flashpoint."

Entertainment Weekly stated that Flashpoint came before the 2011 relaunch of 52 DC Comics titles, called The New 52. The project featured storylines merging for a crossover arc, written by Geoff Johns, who is currently an executive producer on "The Flash" and serves as Chief Creative Officer at DC Comics.

In the comics plot, Barry traveled to an alternate timeline where his mother is alive and many of the usual heroes of the world act more like villains. For example, Batman is not Bruce Wayne, but Thomas Wayne, and Aquaman is not in good terms with Wonder Woman, among other things. The similarity is when Barry himself changed the timeline by traveling back in time to save his mother. The same situation happened in both the comics and Season 2 finale of "The Flash" on The CW.

Here are five things to expect in Season 3 of "The Flash:"

1. Season 3 will proceed with the Flashpoint narrative although there may be slight twists and changes.

2. There may be effects on related shows like "Arrow," "Supergirl" and "Legends of Tomorrow," especially when the shows are bound to cross over in a four-way event in December 2016. Their respective storylines can continue without a direct effect while Barry makes a whole new timeline where his mother never died.

3. Flashpoint may lead to another comic book storyline, titled "Crisis on Infinite Earths," which has been teased since the pilot of "The Flash. The crossover may function to realign the timelines and possibly introduce Supergirl to the present world.

4. TVLine noted that several viewers believe that the alternate timeline will be set in the four-way crossover event, while others speculate that it will resolve sooner in November. Others think that the Flashpoint narrative will cover the entire Season 3.

5. Keeping true to many aspects of the Flashpoint storyline, there will be alterations in the various characters and their personalities. Captain Cold may be featured as Citizen Cold in the alternate timeline.

"The Flash" Season 3 will premiere on Oct. 4, 2016 at 8 p.m. ET on The CW. More updates and details are expected soon.
