While the iPad Air 3 remains to be confirmed, speculations surrounding its upgrades have already spawned from many places in the Internet. The device is expected to launch the earliest in September, though there are bets of a March 2017 appearance. The new iPad may launch alongside the likewise rumored iPhone 7, but it can also be showcased in another event.
Announced in October 2014, the iPad Air 2 is Apple's latest entry in its Air tablet series, sporting a thickness of 6.1mm and a weight of 0.96lb. With its coating, it has one of the least reflective displays of any tablet in the world, while sporting more vivid colors and better contrast.
One of the most highly-anticipated differences expected in the next iPad Air is its depth. As far as rumors have gone, the new device will be thinner than its predecessor. These days, it's not hard to imagine another slate slimmer than 6.1mm, but we're yet to learn a specific figure. Samsung by far holds the title of the world's thinnest tablets in the Galaxy Tab S2, which comes in 8- and 9.7-inch models.
In terms of display, what can we expect from the iPad Air 3? Rumor has it that it could get a 401ppi treatment, similar to the iPhone 6s Plus. The current Air model offers a resolution of 2048 x 1536 pixels (264 ppi).
Another interesting detail about the iPad Air 3 is its possible use of 7000-Series aluminium, the strongest alloy Apple has ever used in an iPhone. This material is present in the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus. The Cupertino giant says such enclosure is made from "the same grade of aluminum used in the aerospace industry."
Under the hood, the rumored tablet is pegged to pack an A9X processor, Trusted Reviews wrote. This is a jump from its predecessor, which sports an A8X chip with 64‑bit architecture partnered by an M8 motion coprocessor.
A Smart Connector for the attachment of a Smart Keyboard Cover is also purported to come with the new iPad Air 3. As told by Macworld, this will be located in the lefthand edge of the device. Compatibility with the Apple Pencil is also desired.
The PCAdvisor, which sees an October 2016 launch, feels a release date is likely the following month. Trusted Reviews assumes that the iPad Air 3 will sell "around the same price" as the iPad Air 2's launch cost. The current tablet is available to purchase from $399 for its 16GB version.
