'Persona 5' News: Japan Release Date, Gameplay Trailer & Everything PS4 & PS3 Players Need to Know

PS4 and PS3 players in Japan can expect "Persona 5" beginning September 15, 2016, Atlus confirmed in its recent live stream event. This detail has long been awaited by fans of the role-playing franchise, and while release dates for everywhere else are yet to be known, prospective gamers would be glad to know fresh information that are not mere speculations.

First, a new trailer (fourth) is showcased during Atlus' broadcast, which you can check out below. The nearly 5-minute clip surely brings goosebumps to hardcore fans, especially those who have been following the series for twenty years. Yes - "Persona" debuted in 1996, GameSpot notes, and this year marks its second decade.

In line with this fact is the announcement of the game's "Anniversary Edition," which comes with all things "Persona," such as an art book, a soundtrack with songs from earlier installments and DLC, which features outfits from "Persona 3" and "Persona 4," GameZone writes - certainly a must-have for all die-hard fanatics.

In addition to these treats, fans can also look forward to the title's anime special, officially titled "Persona 5 the Animation: The Day Breakers," Gematsu reports. Produced by A-1 Pictures, the special will be a 30-minute animation that revolves around Phantom Thieves. This is set to air in September.

As told by The Verge, "Persona 5" will be up for some stiff competition this year. The game will be facing equally-promising rivals in the likes of "Final Fantasy 15," which is really another title that's been anticipated for some period of time. Those still thirsty for "Persona 5" can catch its next appearance at E3 2016, which runs from June 14 to 16 in Los Angeles, California.

"Persona 5" follows the story of a 16-year-old protagonist who was transferred to Tokyo's Syujin High School. There, he meets Ryuji Sakamoto, Ann Takamaki, Yusuke Kitagawa and Morgana. With different back stories, the five form a group called "Phantom Thieves of Hearts," facing challenging trials in their quest for freedom.
