Thanks to All Games Beta providing scans from the newest issue of Famitsu, it's been confirmed that the silver haired egg burner from Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots is set to appear in the franchise's newest, upcoming chapter, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance.
This was something that Platinum Games and Konami managed to keep particularly well hidden, especially with all the trailers they've been releasing lately.
Daughter of Olga Gurlukovich, Sunny was rescued from the Patriots at the age of 3 by Rising protagonist Raiden, who then delivered here to Snake and Otacon to be cared for. Being raised in isolation didn't exactly make her a social butterfly, but she is wise beyond her years when it comes to computers. She assisted Snake and Otacon in this capacity for years to come.
Suspicions arose early on in the game's development that the young Gurlukovich would make an appearance in one way or another.
Raiden's voice actor Quinton Flynn mentioned working with Sunny's voice actress Christina Puccelli, which helped fuel the rumors. Similarly, a promotional brochure for Rising passed around at the Tokyo Game Show said she would appear, but details weren't supplied as to what regard. Even her picture was simply as a sihlouette.
By the looks of her outfit, it seems as though she has continued work with Snake and Otacon's anti-Metal Gear organization, Philanthropy, the logo of which can be seen on her left pant leg. It also looks as though she's embracing her mother a bit, wearing the same ensemble Olga sported during Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty. At least, the outfit before she wore prior to her cyborg ninja episode.
Given Rising taking place four years after the events of Metal Gear Solid 4, Sunny is roughly around the age of ten, despite that she appears a wee bit over that age. Her history with Raiden coupled with flashback appearances of Solidus should help to flesh out more of Raiden's backstory. It could make for more options for DLC, or even allow for appearances from even more Metal Gear characters.
Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance will release for PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360 Feb. 19. Check out the english trailer here!
