I think I can speak for most of us here on Game & Guide when I say that we value achievements and trophies. Their implementation in most games these days, on console or off, remove nothing from the experience but add an extra incentive to go the extra mile and accomplish a specific goal. If that goal happens to be a private moment in a locker, taking a photo of a swimsuit model, or, you know, kill an old man hours before you're supposed to fight him in a boss fight, then so be it.
With reward comes feelings of accomplishment, so it's no surprise that achievements / trophies have been widely adopted. If you didn't catch on earlier, the above tasks that I mentioned were from the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection. Those were fun to get!
By way of Destructoid, we're hearing why Metal Ger Solid: Ground Zeroes will not include the highly coveted Platinum Trophy on PlayStation versions. The trophy that shows that you have completed every task in the game and aquired all trophies.
“The reason GZ doesn't have Platinum Trophy in PS4 is due to SONY's regulation. They won't allow us to have them for non-full price game,” said MGS creator Hideo Kojima on Twitter.
Well, that's a weird policy, Sony. Much cheaper games launch on PSN with Platinum Trophies; I wonder why a budget release is a concern. It's not a big deal, but there are completionists out there that will no doubt want to strut their 100% completion icon.
Metal Gear Solid 4 shipped without Trophies and received a patch to put them in several years after launch. I don't think we'll be receiving a Platinum Trophy, so you just might have to deal with it. Regardless, completing all available tasks probably won't take too long anyway.
