Nintendo Switch Pauses Game on Battery Depletion

Has it ever happened to be playing a game on your PC, doing extremely well and suddenly, a power outage sends you back on the tutorial? It doesn’t even have to be a computer, sometimes just forgetting to charge your phone completely destroys your experience in handheld gaming. Apparently Nintendo executives have suffered through this pain, because the Switch has an amazing built-in feature to help with that.

Has salvation finally come? Gamerant reports that Nintendo’s new console Switch will automatically save progress when it runs out of battery. As a hybrid console, the Nintendo Switch can be taken on a walk, tea breaks or short trips. Even though quite an amazing feature, this has created concerns in gamers, about the console’s ability to deal with power outages. Test performed by Gamerant’s journalists shows on “Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild” proved that upon running out of battery, the console shuts down, pausing the progress of active games. Upon recharging the console, players can continue their adventure from where it was interrupted.

Battery life is an important feature in any portable device. That is why Forbes’ Andy Robertson performed the ultimate battery comparison test for handheld devices. All the competitors in the test had their brightness setting put on maximum with battery saving mode turned off. In the end of the test, it was Nintendo’s devices that managed to outlast the rest. The Nintendo Switch survived 5.12 hours. For comparison, PSP lasted 4.56 hours, the PS Vita 5.01 hours, iPad Air 4.04 hours and iPad Mini 2 lasted 5.39 hours. On top of the test came out Nintendo’s Gameboy series, of which the Gameboy Advance, Gameboy and Gameboy Colour lasted 30 hours and more.
