Even with the graphics downgrade controversy, Watch Dogs is still one of the most anticipated games on the horizon. But will Ubisoft's open world of Chicago have enough to do to keep players occupied? According to the game's Creative Director, Jonathan Morin, it certainly will.
Responding to a fan's question via Twitter, Morin stated that most players should be able to complete the game's story mode "within 35-40h." Not bad, especially compared to inFamous: Second Son's 10 to 12 hour campaign completion time.
Of course, that's just the story mode. What about the person who wants to explore every nook and cranny of Chicago, and complete every last task? Morin addressed that as well, saying that "doing everything is close 100h."
It wasn't mentioned specifically, but the additional 60 hours likely comes courtesy of new content added to the game during its delay.
The news came by way of a statement the developer issued after the game received a new rating in the land of koalas and kangaroos: "The entire development team has been working hard to polish and fine tune Watch Dogs in order to deliver a truly memorable open world game. In parallel, the extra time also allowed the team to include a bit of additional content."
As per Australian classification guidelines, Ubisoft resubmitted the updated version with the added content to the Australian Classification Board (ACB). The decision to amend the rating of the game from MA15+ to R18+ was made by the ACB."
We knew that once upon a time, Watch Dogs wasn't too violent, but the new content likely changed that a wee bit. After all, the Australian Classification Board did change the game's rating from a MA15+ to R18+ due to "violence, sex and drug use." All the game needs now is rock n' roll...
Watch Dogs' open world of Chicago is home to a security network that would make Orwell piss his pants, responsible for keeping everyone and everything jacked in for the purpose of keeping tabs. At the same time, it allows players as Aiden to meddle with all manner of the city's infrastructure as they see fit - ATM's, traffic lights, security cameras, raise bridges, public transportation, access various networks, etc.
The game is slated to release on PC, PlayStation 3 and 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One this May. A Wii U version will release at a later date. More info to come on the how the game's multiplayer mode and ctOS mobile app will work.
