SEGA is on their way to redeem themselves and the Alien/Aliens brand through the upcoming release of Alien: Isolation. The publisher has released a brand new trailer for the game detailing the creative process behind creating Isolation's sole alien threat: the xenomorph. Calling back to the plot of the first movie, Isolation has a solitary xenomorph stalking players through a derelict spaceship.
After a whole lot of Alien media and past games introduced multiple xenomorphs as a threat, it's no doubt a challenge to make only one of these monsters come across as a driving force of terror.
The “Creating the Alien” video describes the development team's approach to recreating this iconic monster as a threat that will inspire fear and motivate players to use their wits to overcome its predatory skills.
Developed by The Creative Assembly, Alien: Isolation is said to be a true survival horror game. The team has been adamant on proving that statement, especially after Aliens: Colonial Marines became a widespread laughing stock and what many believe an offense to the IP. Isolation's intent is to capture the essence of the first Alien film by Ridley Scott, an iconic horror film in its own right and an inspiration to the horror genre as a whole.
I wish The Creative Assembly the best of luck with Alien: Isolation. I'm a big horror fan and the xenomorph deserves to be scary once more. I hope they stick by their comments that this will be a quality survival horror game without the need of loads of guns, gun-wielding enemies, or multiple threats.
Alien: Isolation is due out later this year on Xbox 360, PS3, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. Check out the trailer below.
