Nintendo President Says ‘Switch’ Online Service Will Be ‘Key’

The Nintendo “Switch” is one of the most discussed consoles. Everything from the insufficient quantity prepared for the opening day, to game catalogue, backwards compatibility and internal hardware has been discussed. Now comes turn to the online service offered by the Nintendo “Switch”.

GameRant shares information regarding the Nintendo “Switch” online service. First and foremost comes the price. The monthly subscription for the “Switch” console will be between $18 and $27 per year. This is notably lower than the competitors like PS 4 and XBOX One, which offer their subscription models on a monthly basis at substantially higher cumulative prices. What does one receive for the money paid? Paying customers will be able to play multiplayer titles with their friends online and will also have access to VoIP chat, through a designated mobile app. The decision to move from headset to a mobile app may be one that will turn away players who are used to the standard use of VoIP, but only time will tell.

IGN shares additional information on the Nintendo “Switch” online service. According to them, anyone who has subscribed to the service will receive the opportunity to download one SNES or NES title freely. A new title will be chosen every month and it will remain available until the end of the month. This decision from Nintendo has received positive reactions from nostalgic gamers and fans of the classic consoles, but there has been an outcry from popular critics, which claim that this is another typical Nintendo move, much like limiting the NES Classic’s numbers or not supplying the Nintendo WiiU with enough content to last its lifetime. This comment is considered viable, as Nintendo has one of the largest ROM catalogues available on the market.

Nintendo Fuse has gathered a list of expectations for the “Switch” which most fans of Nintendo have in common. First is the possibility to add additional memory to the “Switch”. It has already been confirmed that the HDD space available on the console is not big enough to be considered reliable, especially be people who want to have a few games on the go. Another big expectation is the rebirth of legacy titles. On one hand, Nintendo can make ports of its many classics featuring Link, Mario and many other characters, on the other hand, there can be made series of titles new to the world and exclusive to the “Switch”. This includes the “Pikmin”, “Earthbound” and a multitude of other titles which gamers would love to see re-made and re-envisioned. The Nintendo “Switch” will be released on March 3, 2017.
